Our Mission

Raise Well-Behaved Dogs From Home

  • What we do

We teach pet parents how to overcome their lack of time to train their dogs to be well-behaved, so they can be proud to bring them places

  • Why we started

We needed a way to continue to help dogs and their people through the pandemic... then we found out there are endless benefits to online training!

Why "OnDog"?

ONline, ONdemand, ON your schedule

Initially a way to avoid COVID, OnDog Training Academy is on a mission to help dogs outside of the obedience classroom... there are so many 'pandemic puppies' that need our help, but we only have so many hours and could only be in one place at a time.  Being able to show AND tell pet parents how to train their dogs beyond any time constraints, physical distance, length of memory, or inclement weather (we do live in Minnesota, after all), is how we imagine that we'll be making the biggest, most positive, impact possible.

The OnDog Team

Founders

Jake & Jenny

Jake and Jenny met in 7th grade and have pretty much been best friends ever since... "3rd time was the charm" before graduating high school, then two years into their marriage, they started their first dog training business together. OnDog Training Academy was born from the pandemic, and in November 2021 they launched their first online course, "Welcome Home!".

Co-Founder

Jenny S

Jenny is a professional dog trainer/behavior consultant, and a 'born to be small business owner', starting her first business with her husband, Jake, when she was just 22 years old. She has titled both a Belgian Malinois and a Basset Hound in the dog sport, Rally, but prefers to avoid the spotlight and instead focus on creating written materials and maintaining (beautiful) websites.

Co-Founder

Jake S

Jake is a second-generation obedience trainer, an approved Canine Good Citizen Evaluator for the AKC, and has obtained the title, CPDT-KA "Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed". He is also a certified decoy and a sanctioned judge for the United States Mondioring Association, in which he has participated since 2008 - the same year he and his wife, Jenny, started their first dog training business.

Our Dogs

Founders' Dog

Luda ...cris

Luda (registered name: Mohawk's Southern Hospitality) was born on March 1st, 2016 in Kentucky. He attended 5 different puppy classes, so by the time he was 5 months old, he was doing Rally-Obedience class with the "big dogs" (after his puppy kindergarten class let out). He has earned AKC's CGCA and CDX, NW1;ORT, and is a level 3 Mondioring dog - MR3

Founders' Late Dog

Copper .

Copper (registered name: Oxboro's Hakuna Matata) was born on April 25th, 2007, and passed on February 15th, 2019. He was a very busy basset hound who loved the spotlight of the show ring, earning his Championship Title by the time he turned 3 years old... he also used his brains (in addition to his beauty) to earn his CGC and Rally Novice Title [even achieving a perfect score!] from AKC.

Founders' Late Dog

Cato .

Cato (registered name: Cato Von Fulk) was born on May 3rd, 2010, and passed on December 30th, 2014. Even though his time with us was short, he lived a really big life, earning the highest titles available at the time in both Mondioring and Rally Obedience, as well as training to be Jenny's service dog, and traveling across the country... even taking a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Italy.

FAQ

  • How long have you been training dogs?

Jake started showing dogs at the age of 10 and finished his first champion at 13 years old... his mom started an obedience school of her own when he was in the 7th grade (shortly before Jake & Jenny met!). After working for her future mother-in-law in college, Jenny says she 'married into the dogs', then shorter after, they started their own business in 2008.

  • When did you start OnDog?

Out of necessity, we started doing dog training online in 2020... Once we realized the benefits (and the longevity a pandemic can have), we decided to separate our services in 2021, create an online course & community, and launch a weekly podcast, so that we can help even more dogs and their owners.

  • What kind of trainers are you?

We train with Positive Reinforcement and often use the LIMA approach (Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive), however, because we cannot consider ourselves "100% purely positive" due to the use of the other quadrants of behavior modification, including light & fair corrections, punishments, and feedback, we are considered to be Balanced Trainers.

  • What types of services/products do you offer?

Our goal is always to deliver our knowledge material in a variety of ways so that we can help people with all different kinds of learning styles... We write handouts, produce videos & podcasts, host a private community, and meet virtually.

  • Do you still have your first business?

Yes we do!!:-) Even though there are endless benefits to the online scene, there is still a lot of value in our local, in-person services... Our main focus going into 2023 (our 15th year) will be our exclusive Board & Train Programs and Refresher Training.
